Before the title, we need to talk about GAMUT.
The visuals which we witness on our laptops, televisions, and smartphones are in fact based on a color area or color range called sRGB (Standard RGB) or Gamut.
Now that we know what gamut actually is, let’s go to the actual picture Which ONE IS BETTER over the other? LCD OR AMOLED
They claim that LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) displays are more natural and accurate. How far is it the reality?
Actually..
Yes, it is true that LCD's are more natural and accurate if and only if they are made with perfection (when they are produced in the gamut range). But, these days it’s NOT. This is very evident when we observe the displays of LG G2 or LG G3 and the differences are visible. The Gamut of LG G2 is far from Standard RGB (sRGB).
What’s the reason behind this? And who is the game turner here? The answer is AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode)
You heard it right. It is Amoled, because the colors and pictures on Amoled displays are much better than that on LCD displays, in the sense they look very unnatural or over saturated.
Where did the difference come from?
The technologies behind them come in to play now. Amoleds do not need any kind of light to produce the colors as they are already Light Emitting Diodes (LED’s) i.e they emit light without any filters or power in the back. LCDs have had a back light for projecting the visuals. These visuals are filtered and then popped on the display
How do the filters work?
Each pixel has 3 sub-pixels RED, GREEN & BLUE respectively. When the light flashes on these pixels at different magnitudes then we get all the different colors which are seen on the display.
When it comes to Amoled displays they don’t have any filters as mentioned already. These amoled displays are already emitting light which means they are already popping the pure colors. If the colors are pure then they use a larger gamut and due to lack of filters the colors look punched. AMOLED displays also have a bad reputation due to their degradation in colors at some parts.
Anyways, I don’t have the exact answer about the best display. These days display manufacturers are competing over this to show up their grace.
Any Display is k Okay for me.
I like the LG G3 and Sony XPERIA Z3 displays as well as
SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 4 display
A special mention, Sony has come into the picture of IPS LCD with Sony XPERIA Z2 before that they used TFT LCD and these are the one manufacturers which collaborated correctly to show what LCD display actually is? Colors are accurate and natural as well.
